Welcome VE

This site is less than serious, in general. I mainly use this site to explore and play you new options in a real situation so that you learn what it really does. At present the site is using Page Builder by Site Origin which is the one plugin that has done more in my mind to change the face of WordPress more than any other. The other thing I am exploring here is the use of Vantage, a theme also by Site Origin which allows a level of flexibility that opens the door to many possibilities.

The open ended architecture of WordPress is undoubtedly the key to the success, (I call 25% market penetration of the web a success) and developers who leverage this feature set in an equally open way is a great solution and means that website do not all have to look the same.

It is responsive? of course it is responsive. That is a given in this day and age.

Photography

I have taken photos since I was in school. Sure there have been many changes in that time, most notably digital photography. However at the fundamental level it is the same, we are just doing it a little differently. Photograph derives from two Greek words - photos and graphos - which quite literally means 'to draw with light'. We capture the image in the camera, and there are a number of factors that control the result. Speed and Aperture are obviously the big ones, and whilst a have a preference for Aperture Priority, everything relates. And sure these days you can fix a lot of things in Photoshop. however you can not fix focus.

Any glance around Facebook will tell you that there are a lot of people who have not learned how to use the auto-focus on their camera. It is clear that there is more than that. The great photographers of last century were using cameras which quite frankly these days we would not rate, so clearly the is an art, a skill, and an innate sense you develop that composes a photograph. There have been many sets of rules and ideas, - rule of thirds, foreground - mid-ground - background, and almost always the rules only work when you know how to break them.

Equipment

I have an Olympus e520 which I enjoy. There are better and worse cameras around, that happens to be what I have. More importantly I have some lenses, and my favourite is a 9-18 mm wide angle lens which allows ots of things. I have a 70-300 mm telephoto lens, and my go-to lens which is 18-180 mm which gets me out of most problems most of the time. I have a tripod, and even though it is a pain in the neck to trudge around with another piece of equipment, it certainly has helped me get some of my better shots.
